A Wiser System

Jon Lips, inventor of the FertiWiser, reflects, “I remember looking at my yard a few days after I applied granular fertilizer and thinking that it looks like a watermelon rind. There must be a better way to fertilize. We have this great irrigation system, I wonder if we could inject the fertilizer through the irrigation system”.

He did hours of research about what he later found was called fertigation. He learned from experts like Charles Burt out of Cal Poly Tech and countless others that fertigation was not only a better way to distribute fertilizer more evenly, but also that micro-dosing of fertilizer every time you water provided more efficient nutrient delivery to the plant.

He also learned that there were environmental benefits such as less runoff to surface waters and ground water and that healthy plants are stronger and less susceptible to weeds and pests meaning less pesticide use. There were lots of huge fertigation systems (golf courses, large agricultural operations) that utilized complex pumps and controls delivering fertilizer. However, there was nothing that delivered “TRUE FERTIGATION” to residential and small commercial properties that had the sophistication of the FertiWiser System which provides targeted fertilizers for shrubs, flowers, veggie gardens etc.

In 1998 Jon invented a new innovative device called the FertiGator that delivered small amounts of fertilizer through residential and small industrial sprinkler systems. For over two decades he has been redesigning this technology which has resulted in the proven, tested, reliable FertiWiser System that is available today. Over these years we have simplified the installation process to make it easy enough to install by the DIY’ers.

FertiWiser was formed in 2019 by Jon Lips and Eric Groenweghe.

Jon Lips is a mechanical engineer and has managed several manufacturing companies. His true passion is inventing and entrepreneurship. He holds 8 issued patents and additional pending patents. Much of his work has been with fertigation systems since the late 1990’s.

Eric Groenweghe is structural engineer who, prior to joining FertiWiser, was the Chief Operating Officer for 20 years at a large manufacturing Company of industrial process equipment. Before that he was the Chief Engineer at several manufacturing Companies. Eric is a problem solver who brings business acumen and a meticulous and careful planning skill set to the team.

The FertiWisers are manufactured at our factory in Erie, Colorado, USA.
